E (Colourless): Second-highest colour grade. Still officially colourless; visually identical to D in any normal viewing.
E is the lower half of the colourless tier. Buyers get nearly the same visual outcome as D at a small discount. For buyers who care about the lab grade but not the D premium, E is an efficient choice.
Standards bodies: GIA, AGS
Frequently asked questions
Difference between D and E?
Almost none to the unaided eye. Graders can tell under controlled conditions; a buyer in a jewellery setting cannot.
How much cheaper is E than D?
Typically 5 to 10 percent at equal carat, cut, and clarity. The gap widens at higher carats.
